Reducing the noise: unsubscribe
Continuing the theme of New Year's activities, I am taking a hard look at what I look at (or hear, or read, etc) and attempting to reduce noise.
"Noise" is anything that appears before me in any form which fails to add value to my day, however I choose to define that. If something has added value in the past, just maybe not today, that does not necessarily make it noise. However, if I look at something that has not gotten it done for me at some point in the last year, that item is being eliminated. I have had the same work email address for six+ years. It is phenomenal the number of people, companies and other organizations that email me stuff, every day. If I look at your email and you or your company has not added some value to my life in the last year, you're fired. If you have an unsubscribe button, I am hitting it. If you do not have the common freakin' courtesy to let me unsubscribe painlessly, you are being reported as spam.View Comments
